The Hood River Reads 2018 selection is Moreno. Prieto. Brown. by Alejandro Jimenez. Events will be held in March and April and will include a visit by the author. Hood River Reads will begin to distribute books at the kickoff event on Saturday, March 17 at 2:00 p.m. The committee has also selected a second book for younger audiences, Brown Girl Dreaming by Jacqueline Woodson.
According to Jimenez’ website: Moreno. Prieto. Brown. Is my first book, a collection of 16 poems, and one short story, much of the book is autobiographical. It is about growing up undocumented in the US. It is about family. It is about breaking stereotypes. It is about redefining masculinity. It is about a yearning for home. It is an attempted at being honest. And like most things worthwhile, it is a journey.
