In honor of Black History Month, we have compiled a list of films and documentaries that celebrate the history, creativity and struggle of black experience and black filmmakers. All the films on this list are available at your very own Hood River Library!

This list is, of course, subjective and limited, but we think of it as a great starting point for newcomers and cinephiles alike! From auteur Spike Lee’s iconic biopic Malcolm X, to Jordan Peele’s horror-allegory Get Out, to Ryan Coogler’s mega blockbuster Black Panther, to Dawn Porter’s widely acclaimed documentary John Lewis: Good Trouble, we hope to highlight the many lens through which experience can be portrayed and experienced by audiences.

So grab some popcorn and a sparkling water, and get ready to enjoy some amazing films!
