Event Details

The incredible true story about an old Army foot soldier named Bob Shano, a Vietnam-era veteran and a native-born New Yorker from the Bronx, who was compelled by the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks to return to the ranks. Shano had previously served in the Army as an Infantryman, left the military back in 1986 and, after being out of the service for 16 years, signed back up when he was 50 years old to serve alongside a new generation of Infantry soldiers, ultimately completing three combat tours—two in Iraq and one in Afghanistan—before being mandatorily retired in June 2013 at age 62. Over the course of his eleven-year enlistment, Shano braved bullets, roadside bombs, rocket and mortar attacks, and some of the harshest environmental conditions on the planet as he served alongside his fellow Infantrymen—most of whom were 30 years younger than he was. His tell-all memoir is a “must-read” for anyone interested in a brutally honest chronicle of military life and an authentic account of America’s Global War on Terror.   Shano will conclude his discussion  with a drawing for a hardbound edition of  his book.  The drawing is free and anyone 18 or older may enter.  And there is no requirement to attend the book discussion.
