Hood River County Library District will be showing Calling Home the Dead / Llamar a los Muertos a Casa on Sunday, November 1, 3:00pm at Hood River Library. The film, made by Jim Hill and Meesh Rheault Miller, follows the villagers of Lake Patzcuaro in Michoacán, Mexico as they honor their ancestors on the Day of the Dead. This film screening is part of the Library District’s Grave Matters discussion series on death and dying.
Calling Home the Dead / Llamar a los Muertos a Casa transports viewers to a small Mexican village and shows their preparations for the Day of the Dead. From the special foods they make to the blankets of flowers they lay on the graves, the villagers honor those who came before them with reverence. In addition to showing the movie, this Grave Matters program will include other traditional Day of the Dead activities.
